The University Institute for Gender Studies Research (IUIEG) is devoted to scientific and technical research in gender studies at the University of Alicante and aims to encourage, support and coordinate research in this field.

It is made up by both female and male researchers from different fields of study (Sociology, Law, Communication, Language Studies, History, Health, Social Work, Economy, Information Technology, Psychology, Philosophy).

Its mission statements are as follows:

  • Coordinate initiatives already in progress and launch new multidisciplinary research lines in the field of gender studies.
  • Boost the collaboration and training of research groups in the field of gender studies.
  • Encourage individual research through funding and fellowships.
  • Promote research staff training via the Doctoral Interuniversity Programme in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies and specialisation courses.
  • Establish scientific cooperation relations with national, international and European Union institutes.
  • Disseminate and perform transfer of its research results in gender studies through its publications: Feminismo/s journal and Lilith monograph collection

The Institute is a member of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS)and the “Gender Studies Coordinating Centre for Valencia region public universities”.

The Institute also maintains contact with AUDEM- University Association for Women's Studies and AEIHM- Spanish Research Association for Women's History.
